Swirls and Twirls ~Calligraphic Flourishing on Fabric

The new hot adornment on everything from soup to skateboards is the flourish. We’ll take lettering and art tools and learn to pirouette on fabric. Various media will be introduced and the artist will be introduced to new tools like the Parallel Pen, dimensional paints and Wite Out pens. The modern scribble is neat behind your collages and as background fabric for my next class-a graffiti messenger bag.. Doodling sinuous thick and thin lines and other exercises will be our experiments. We’ll follow the linear route of calligraphy-with out having to really learn calligraphy.
Simple wash techniques will provide a backgrounds for flourishes, creative flowers and swirls making personal intuitive marks. This is also a great way to release stress while making fabulous art. The artist will come away from the class with many fabric backgrounds flourished and ready to be collaged into their work.

CANVAS GRAFITTI MESSENGER BAG
This bag is the perfect way to carry your journals and all those crazy writing tools.  We’ll begin with painted switrled and twirled canvas from the previous class. Here the fun of hand lettering and layering begins. I will only show you the easiest ways to write on fabric and the best tools to use-however even your own handwriting (or scribbling) will do. WHAT you write on your bag is important-creating meaningful personal text and accessing the eloquence of others with inspiring quotes will help us to create a work of art to hang on our shoulder. You can easily sew this bag by hand, enclosing the strap to your desired length, and embellish with tassels, trim and beads. No previous experience in any of the above techniques is necessary-It may be even better if you have no experience at all- to be a total beginner!
